At Last! These past few weeks at Gamblers Book Shop have been hectic. Football magazines came and went and were reordered, came and went and were reordered, came and went and were reordered. So, if the big wigs at the top of the NFL and NCAA ever bother to check with us, we can verify the fact that a lot of people are betting football!
It's not our fault, honest. Jim Feist just decided not to publish an annual football workbook this year. The closest publication we provides similar material to Jim's work is Playbook Stat and Log Book by Marc Lawrence. Both college and pro teams get a ton of action here. Store Happenings In our old retail store we had about 100 photos of notable gaming figures above the book sheves. These are now back in full view at our new location. If you can't get to Las Vegas to see them, there's a glimpse of them on our blog.
In a few days we'll be posting some additional photos there, this time including shots of the folks -- authors, media, neighbors and customers -- who attended the grand opening of the store. Newest Titles It's been a slow month for new titles. Most of the football stock arrived and most of that sold out much more quickly than in past years, so our purchasing department has been busy reordering.
One new book that's sure to catch the eye of the fellows is Topless Vegas, a tome that reviews and rates the topless day and night spots in Sin City, including clothing optional pools, cheapest lap dances, best booze, etc.

Edited and ready for you to enjoy are the quick podcasts from the World Series of Poker 2009. It's titled Episode 49 and it includes Alan Schoonmaker and The Duke. On that same broadcast you can hear player, author of gaming books, and consultant to the gaming industry Victor Royer talk about his views of the games, the casinos, and the books he's written. Episode 50 features Dale Yeazel, one of the most diverse and talented dealers (for craps and blackjack), who discusses his casino experience and his newest contribution to the world of ebook publishing.
But it's Episode 51 that's sure to get a lot of attention. In this one, Arnold Snyder, more noted as a professional gambler and author of numerous blackjack books as well as poker titles has ventured into the (under)world of topless clubs in Las Vegas. Book Reviews If you're looking for additional information on some of the newer titles in stock, check out Howard's Book Review Column on the Las Vegas Review-Journal's website.
Howard's reviews don't criticize writers who don't have great editors behind them (This is especially true of self-published books.) as long as the author gets his or her point across to the reader. He doesn't criticize; instead, he points out segments of each title that can help the reader.
And for chit-chat, rumor, questions and answers, there's always the Gamblers Bookshop Blog. Our latest posts include a couple of customer comments and questions, a link to the Las Vegas Sun article on the store by columnist Jeff Haney. We also added some picture of some of the guests you'll hear when the WSOP podcast goes "live."
HOT SELLERS This title arrived just as our last newsletter was being proofread. (Soory our proofer didn't catch those two errors.) Maybe it was the last-minute notice or maybe it's word of mouth, and maybe Sam O'Connor is sending his poker opponents to the store or it could be a combination of all these that has put the TALES OF OLD VEGAS. at the top of the list of books that customers are asking for (aside from football titles, of course.
Other top sellers--poker books, wouldn't you know-- include Deal Me In, the book put out by Phil Hellmuth's outfit and Swayne's Advanced Degree in Hold'em.
